Did you wait with bated breath to hear what Barack Hussein Obama, the Magnificent, would say today when he stood in front of the green marble wall and addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations? I’m sure you did just as much as I did. According to Politico’s Laura Rozen, 1060 of his 4090 words were dedicated to the Middle East Piece Process. Well, I for one, am not shouting hooraw but more likely, Who? What?
Here we have a president of the United States, who has done more to destroy his own country and to create a wider political and racial divide than we have experienced in years, but who had the audacity to say, “Last year, I pledged my best efforts to support the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, as part of a comprehensive peace between Israel and all of its neighbors.” I’m sure his best efforts have done much to help this piece initiative. Perhaps his noble words this morning will bring comfort to the seven children mourning the loss of their parents, Yitzak and Talya Ames, or the husband of Kochava Even Chaim, or the widow of Avishai Shindler, all murdered on August 31, 2010, by Hamas. Yep, those are comforting words.
He went on to say he “refused to accept…the skepticism of the nay sayers…that it won’t work…”
Wow! Such power. Of course, he credited the sacrifice – he didn’t say ‘sacrifice’, that’s my word – of the Israelis on the ten month moratorium on settlement expansion which began last November and is due to expire tomorrow. You notice, there wasn’t anything said about the moratorium on building by Hamas/PA/Hizbollah. Maybe that’s because they didn’t stop doing anything, including killing, shooting rockets into Israel and so on.
“Now is the time for the parties to help each other overcome this obstacle,” Obama urged. “Now is the time to build the trust – and provide the time – for substantial progress to be made. Now is the time for this opportunity to be seized, so that it doesn’t slip away.” I think that means that Israel is supposed to continue not building, forcing Jews into small houses and apartments and driving on highways that have been made more dangerous by Israel’s good-faith-removal of some of the security check points.
It must be wonderful to be Magnificent and to have such glorious obsessions! I wonder where he and Michelle, the Belle, will jet set off to tonight at tax payer expense? Maybe it will be to dinner at the Gray House in the Bahamas. Its Thursday, date night, maybe they’ll go to New York City to dinner and bask in the glory of his talk in front of the green marble wall! We are so proud of you mister president.
