Yesterday – Thursday – eight Israelis were killed in sudden and apparent orchestrated attacks in the southern part of Israel, very near the resort town of Eilat, just north of the Egyptian border. Although it has been relatively quiet in that part of Israel for sometime now, it isn’t really a huge surprise that the “Arab Spring” has turned into the “Muslim Brotherhood’s Summer.” Those of us that are watchers of the Middle East have been expecting something like this for several months, tragic and infuriating as it is. Anytime innocent people are attacked by terrorists, no matter where they are, it is wrong and this sudden uprising is beyond wrong – it is vile and evil.
In reading the reports of the attacks and Israel’s response to it, I came across one of the most bizarre finger pointings I’ve ever read. Egypt is blaming Israel for the deaths of four of Egypt’s soldiers and one policeman, allegedly killed by an Israeli fighter jet. Of course, there will be a public outcry from the Muslim world and a demand for an investigation and sanctions against Israel. Let there be no mistake, Israel will investigate this incident herself and I’m sure, that in the end, the proof will be there that Israel’s explanation of the event will hold true, just as it did in the Mohammed Dura incident.
Israel says, “a suicide bomber, not Israeli soldiers, killed the Egyptian security forces.” An Israeli officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, according to military regulations said “the attacker had fled back across the border into Egypt and detonated his explosives among the Egyptian troops.”
So lets see if we can get this straight. An alleged homicide bomber, most likely from Egypt, crossed the border into Israel with his sites on murdering innocent Israelis. When the big, bad Israeli Defense Forces showed up and chased him, he ran back across the border into Egypt and blew himself up in the midst of his brothers – Egyptian soldiers. Hmmmm. It has to be the Israeli’s fault, after all they were chasing him! Disgusting as it seems, the media will most likely buy the story and run with it.
