A couple of days ago I read the most astonishing news – Germany – once the great and determined exterminator of Jews – had just furnished Israel with an entirely new Dolphin submarine, capable of being nuclear warhead equipped. Joy of joys – Germany had even subsidized the purchase to the tune of 180 million dollars, about one third of the price! Wow! Germany. Mixed emotions. Once the killer, now the benefactor. Quite a distance to come in less than 70 years.
I was excitedly sharing the information with a friend and she told me that she’d heard this was the fourth of such submarines Germany had provided to Israel. That surprised and thrilled me even more. Perhaps Germany had awakened and truly was turning the tide to be a nation supporting Israel, which would be great since the United States’ government is no longer doing so. How could I not rejoice in that!
But, then, alas – the truth comes out. It seems that the submarine was “conditioned on the release of $100 million per month to the Palestinian Authority of taxes which were frozen by Israel in retaliation for the PA’s unilateral bid for United Nations’ membership, because their (PA’s) Mahmoud Abbas supposedly has ‘calmed down.’” (Arutz Sheva, Sunday, December 4, 2011)
Holding true to form, the day after the Knesset voted to release the money, Abbas started making his demands for membership to the UN, which is in violation of the Oslo Accords, forced on Israel by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, The Magnanimous, in 1993.
According to the German newspaper, Die Welt, the deal between German’s Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu was actually entered into a year ago but no contract had been signed because she “wanted to link it with the diplomatic process.” Hmmmm. Who couldn’t read between the lines on this one.
Once again, Israel stands completely alone. Whether it is one submarine or four or more, Israel stands alone. The Palestinians’s stripes remain the same – two white ones running right down the length of their backs and all that they do smells. They may think they’ve won this one – be it the Germans or the Palestinians, but in the end, it is the God of Israel that wins. May it be soon!
