Happy New Year! Who would ever have thought we would see 2014- or – for that matter, there would ever be a 2014! After all, wasn’t the world supposed to expire, die, disappear, go away or something terrifically tragic would happen on December 21, 2012! Nostradamus and the Mayan Calendar pointed towards that direction and the so-called investigative news programs and documentaries reported on all of it, every moment of it, as though it had already happened!
But – we are still here – 13 months later.
There are some interesting things happening though, that have nothing to do with the end of the world but with other issues. Let’s take a look at some of those:
Although the amazing former Vice President and Presidential candidate, Al Gore, now speaks with a British accent about global warming the MV Akademik Shokalskiy still sits stuck in ice in Antarctica. Oddly enough, the 52 tree-hugging passengers and the 22 Russian crew members were ‘researching global warming’ when a blizzard pushed thick sheets of ice around the ship, freezing it into place! How can that be when the globe is warming so much that the ice is melting and we are all in danger of dying – soon – from floods. I wonder what those 74 people think about global warming now. And, did I forget to tell you, that the ice is so thick that the Chinese ice-breaker Snow Dragon couldn’t get to the captured ship to rescue the ‘explorers!’ Hmm…something sure is blowing warm but I don’t think it’s the climate.
But there is hope. After all, Hope and Change have brought the United States of America the wonderful gift of the Affordable Care Act. With around one million people signing up – and hoping they now have insurance, but no one knows for sure – there are something like 5 to 7 million formerly insured Americans who no longer have insurance. Yep! That’s Hope and Change.
Dear Nancy. Poor thing. She told us we would have to pass the bill to see what was in it. We did and now we know. I think it’s called Hopelessness and Chaos. I hope we have change soon.
On top of all of that, we have the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, kissing up to Democrats, selling out Republicans and marching to some flat drum that few are hearing. He didn’t like Ted Cruz’s 23+ hour speech on the Senate floor, but it didn’t really effect Boehner because that was in the House and he isn’t. But as to those Tea Party people…welllll fellaaaaa….that’s another story. They are in the House and in the Senate and on the Streets removing blockades preventing WWII Veterans from seeing their memorial. Now those Tea Party people – yep! They are a problem, for sure. Do you ever wonder where John Boy gets his tans? Is it spray on or do you think he lies down on a tanning bed?
Then there is the NSA – I believe that stands for National Security Administration. Because bad boy Snowden escaped the establishment, caught a plane and flew away, we now know everything we say, do, hear, write and maybe think about, is being captured, listened to, rerouted, stored and used against us. If that is true, then why didn’t the FBI capture the Boston Bombers prior to the bombing? They had been told by Russia – of all people – to watch them as they were suspected terrorists. Instead, three people died and many others were permanently injured, because the Bombers really were terrorists and apparently were not being listened to by the NSA because they were listening to you and me. Wonder why that is.
Then there are the Paula Dean and Duck Dynasty stories that took the airwaves like rockets – I won’t say shotgun because we know they aren’t dangerous. Paula Dean was charged, tried and found guilty by the press for a statement she said 20+ years ago when she was much younger. And who told them? It wasn’t the NSA. No, it was a disciplined former white employee who sued Paula and wanted…get ready for it…MONEY. Now, until that happened, I was never much of a Paula Dean fan, but let me tell you – I am now. The Duck Dynasty guy – what’s his name? Is it Willie? I don’t know and I don’t even care. But I do agree with what he said. He was quoting Bible. And, before any possible readers go ballistic, think about this…is God fair? If He is fair, would he have destroyed two cities for a sin they couldn’t control or help? Nope! Wouldn’t have happened. Tear out all the pages of the Bible you want, but truth is truth. Sorry!
What about Nelson Mandela? Such a hero. Such a wonderful man. Twenty seven years in jail for a crime he did do – he couldn’t appeal it because he did do it. Had he been tried in an American or British court, he most likely would have gotten the death penalty. But, what the heck. He was just dressing up people who didn’t agree with him with those necklaces – was it really his fault they were filled with petro (that’s gasoline in American) and lit on fire. How could he know? Statesman? Leader? How about murderer. Communist. Fascist.
2013 has come and gone, leaving behind a trail of debris and agony for many people. It doesn’t really matter though…the beautiful people are still beautiful; the rich are still rich and getting richer; nothing has changed in Washington nor will it; and life goes on. Happy 2014! May we be blessed with change – real change and not more hyperbole.
