As I write this, we are only eight days into the year 2015 and it seems the world is even crazier than it was ten days ago when we were still in 2014.
Yesterday, January 7, the hideous attack on Charlie Hebdo – a small French news magazine with a circulation of 60,000 occurred. Of course, any rational thinking adult knows this is a terrorist attack. After all, the shooters screamed Allah Akbar as they spread carnage through the conference room of the paper where a staff meeting was underway. It took only a few minutes to riddle the lives of 23 families leaving 12 people dead and 11 seriously wounded. Just minutes.
While the two Islamist Jihadi brothers run and hide from French police, the nation mourns as people stand in the rain holding up individual pens and signs declaring “Je Suis Charli” – I am Charlie. The 18 year old get-away driver for the murderers has turned himself in – at least he had enough cognitive matter to do that.
And while the world ricochets from this, another Islamic Terror attack, President Obama and his ilk – Howard Dean – refuse to call it Islamic Terror; Dean even went so far to declare these murderers are no more Islamic than he is! Really! Wonder what he’s trying to tell us.
In the meantime, back here in the United States, a seventeen year old girl named Cassandra has refused chemotherapy treatment for her Hodgkins Lymphoma. Instead, she has chosen to receive natural therapy.
Not to worry though, the wonderful social workers of Connecticut’s Department of Children and Family know what’s best for this young lady – therefore, they have been given custody of her and are forcing her to undergo chemotherapy at Connecticut Children’s Hospital. Apparently these things are not covered in the United States Constitution where, when it was written, the idea of a child being ripped from the hands of their parent and forced to receive unwanted medical care, didn’t even cross the minds of those writing that document!
What boggles my mind is why on earth we would refuse, as a country, to fight ISIS other than a few bombing runs, why we refuse to call Islamist Terrorism what it is, yet we will rip children of any age, including those who are almost an adult, from the hands of their parents and force them to take poison. I am wondering what Jefferson, Monroe, Washington and their co-drafters would say about that. But then, what would they say about the America of today?
We seem to be a country – a world – spinning out of control. Everything is upside down, just as we were told it would be in Isaiah 5: 20 – 23 “20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! 22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!”
Please, God, help us to get it right.
