Happy Hanukkah? Is this the way the United Nations reaches out to Israel to wish them a Happy Hanukkah? On the eve of the eve of Hanukkah, the United Nations Security Council passed UN Resolution 2334 with 14 nations voting for it and the United States, for the first time ever, abstained! The Resolution declared that Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (biblical Israel) have ‘no legal validity’. Furthermore, the Resolution states that ‘such settlements constitute a flagrant violation under international law.’ It further demands Israel stop building in Palestinian territory and East Jerusalem and declares Israel to be in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention! Really!
This actually makes my head spin! There are so many aspects of this Resolution 2334 that I can and do take exception to, not the least of which is: Israel IS a sovereign nation! What right does the UN have to tell a sovereign nation what they can or cannot do? They apparently don’t have the right or authority to tell Syria to stop killing their citizens thereby taking a “who cares” attitude. However, they seem to think they have the right to tell Israel what she can or cannot do!
Israel has been Israel almost from the beginning of time. Israel was granted the land she possesses – notice I didn’t say occupies – by GOD thousands of years ago. Okay, so most of the people at the UN don’t believe in God, at least not in the God of Israel; but the majority of them are Arabs or Muslims who read the Quran.
I cannot help but think of the biblical story of Korah and his rebellious attitude in the book of Numbers. Korah rebelled against Moses and, essentially, all of Israel. When he could not be reasoned with and refused to believe that Moses had authority granted by God, he and his followers were swallowed up by the earth which then sealed shut over them. Oddly enough, this same story is in the Quran as well, under the name of Kuran! You would think the UN Security Council, which is laced with Muslims, would read this story and learn from it but that doesn’t seem to happen.
The very fact that the United States of America abstained from this vote is absolutely disgusting. A rationale thinking United States has always vetoed such a vote. Now we abstain! I cannot rectify this in my mind – how dare we stand against Israel and the God of Israel. Who do we think we are? As I travel the country on my speaking engagements, I find more and more people who are pro-Israel, in fact, I think it is safe to say the majority of Americans, at least those who live between the parentheses of the two coastlines, are pro-Israel! Yet the United States abstains from such an important vote.
This morning I heard Lt. Col. Ralph Peters on Fox news sum the current Washington administration up succinctly when he said, “It can be summed up in six words: “Praise Islam, Ignore Christians, Blame Jews”. That’s where it is now. Obama, in his skewed thinking has voted against Israel in all things by ordering our UN Ambassador to abstain from the vote. May Obama soon have an up close and very personal Korah experience!
