Friday evening in Israel is normally a time of great celebration as the Queen of Shabbat is welcomed into Jewish homes across the country. It is a lovely time of joy, family, grace, and God. Children are home from school, parents are home from work and soldiers are home for this special day that comes once a week. Shabbat is a time of peace. A time of coming together. A time of respite from the noisy, busy world.
Last Friday, Shabbat was a time of death for a Jewish family that was not only welcoming in Shabbat but celebrating the birth of a new grandchild, born that day. The family gathered around the Shabbat table with great joy, eagerly anticipating the arrival of nearby friends to celebrate the birth with them. The door was unlocked allowing those friends to ‘come on in’ without having to wait at the door in the extreme heat.
An unwelcome guest came to the event. Satan’s Emissary of Hatred showed up wielding a knife purchased specifically for this purpose, slashing through the peace and serenity that had been, spreading blood and hatred through the home of the celebrants, leaving the grandfather and two of his adult children dead and the grandmother fighting for her life.
Excuses abound. The Emissary of Hatred, a teenage boy, declared it was because Muslim access to the Al Aqsa Mosque had been stopped by Israel. In fact, that isn’t true at all. Access to the Temple Mount now requires they go through metal detectors just as one has to go through to reach the Western Wall. No prayer was stopped. No access to the Temple Mount was stopped other than that caused by the boycott declared by the Waqf – the Muslim hierarchy.
The Emissary of Hatred survived the attack although he had been neutralized by an IDF soldier who came from a nearby home when he heard the screaming. Well trained in response to terrorism, the soldier fired through a window and stopped the attack by shooting Satan’s henchman. The Satanic henchman’s smiling face is shown on newspapers across Israel as he lay on a gurney in an Israeli hospital while his family and the Palestinians celebrated by dancing in the streets, passing out candy and rejoicing over his “heroic deed”. This heroic deed will qualify the family to start receiving subsidy payments from the PLO. I wonder, does that make this murder for hire?
In the face of hatred, Israel stands strong. While the world will blame Israel and demand that she acquiesce to the outcry of the Muslims let us pray that the pressure put on Israel will not be so strong that she will surrender to the hate, remove the metal detectors and allow what was continue to be.
